HOLY FITNESS FOR YOU

Two painters were teamed up on a small scaffolding. I looked over and my friend was ducking and trying to move away from the flailing arms of her partner. The partner was on some kind of methamphetamine and jumping spasmodically all over the scaffold, arms and legs going in all directions. Her frenzied speed and jerky movements were a kind of bizarre entertainment, but she wasn’t accomplishing anything. Sometimes we’re all like that.

We get ourselves going in so many directions that we aren’t really getting anything solid accomplished.

Holy Fitness is taking charge of our lives, diligently making one small change at a time to become a stronger Christian. We align our habit patterns with what the Word of God and the Holy Spirit is teaching us. Don’t be a Christian spasmodic, trying to add too many things at once!

Diligence is the key. The dictionary defines it as “constant and earnest effort to accomplish what is undertaken; persistent exertion of body or mind.” Holy Fitness starts with a word from Lord, then a deliberate decision, then the corresponding action.

Each person’s Holy Fitness training will be different. John 16:13 tells us the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth. That includes truth about our daily habits.

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things.” We just need to take the time in our frenzied lives to listen.

Job 8:7 tells us, “Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.” It’s like planting a fruit tree. It starts off small, but as it grows little by little it eventually produces larger and larger amounts of fruit.

That’s how Holy Fitness works. We start with small things: a few minutes of prayer in the middle of the day, reading a section of scripture we’ve never read or haven’t read in a long time. The Lord will put small things on our heart and when we do them we grow.

What’s He put on your heart lately? Hebrews 11:6 says “He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Enjoy one of those small steps in your personal Holy Fitness workout.

Love, Carolyn
