LIGHT IN THE GARAGE

LIGHT IN THE GARAGE
The fluorescent lights in my garage started flickering a while ago. I was afraid it would be a complicated fix so I put off getting an electrician. Finally, we did it. Jane made the call. The electrician came, took one look at the lights and told us it was just that the ballasts were old. He checked with our house insurance and they paid for all the new parts. It only cost $55.00.

We are afraid of the things we don’t understand, in the physical as well as the spiritual. But so often the fix is not nearly as difficult as we anticipate.

There was a good side and a bad side to getting the lights repaired. The good side was that we could see everything. The bad side was that we could see everything! WOW, so much dust and disarray had collected in my garage when the lights were flickering and low! It’s the same with us spiritually.

I have been working so hard at getting volume two of WINGS out, that my time in just reading the Bible was like the garage lights—flickering. Then yesterday I took several hours away from home to just sit and study the Word of God. I did a word study on the word “sleep.” In the process, I ended up reading many exciting chapters of the Bible and got all kinds of new light on some current world situations as well as things in my own life. It was thrilling.

Even in the very first verses of the Bible, God talks about light: “And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness” (Gen. 1:4).

The thing about light is that it exposes any darkness. So when I had new bright lights in my garage, I could see that I had work to do. I can now see the mess! Time to clean up.

Psalm 18:28 says, “For thou wilt light my candle: The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.” If we want the dark places of our lives to be lightened, we need to get that light of God turned on. First Corinthians 4:5 tells us: “Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.”

The supposition here is that every man will have praise from God because he or she has sought light from the Lord; the light has revealed the darkness and the person has received the exchange of light for the former darkness. Then God is super happy because light and clarity and peace is prevailing. Confusion, filth and fear has been removed. Isn’t that what we all want?

We get lazy sometimes and make excuses for ourselves. I know I was lazy about getting someone to fix my garage lights. Then because I couldn’t see out there very well, I didn’t bother sweeping the floor. I didn’t see that some of my supplies had tipped over and that I needed an all over general clean up. I asked myself, “What happened? It used to be clean and organized out here!” But without proper light, something awful happened. Yikes!

God is light and His “word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Ps. 18:28).

If our time in reading the Bible has been flickering like my lights, it’s time to get back to it. Let’s not be apathetic in our Christian walk and think that it’s okay to expect the Lord to always just give us revelation, rather than us having to actually sit down with the Bible and read His Word.

When I started my study on “sleep” yesterday, I went to BibleGateway.com and printed out the scripture references. Then when I began to look them up, certain stories caught my interest and I had such a great time reading the context. By doing this, the Lord was able to direct me and give me new insight on sections of scripture that directly related to current events in my life as well as in the world at large. It was awesome.

Jesus came in the flesh to help people. His mission was, and still is, “to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light” (Acts 26:18).

Let’s let the Word of God, and the revelation of Jesus Christ, open our eyes and let the light shine in.

JESUS DELIVERS MY FAVORITE CUPCAKES

JESUS DELIVERS MY FAVORITE CUPCAKES
I was asked to bring something to a barbecue this coming Friday. I volunteered to bring dessert. I had to bring enough for 20 people, so I thought about it and decided I wanted to bring my favorite triple chocolate cupcakes. My roommate Jane said that a package of four costs about four dollars, which is kind of expensive, and they usually don’t have too many of the packages available.

She looked in the usual place and didn’t even find one package of cupcakes. She stood there and the Lord said, “Go to the cooler in the bakery and take some pictures on your phone of some cupcakes for Carolyn.” When Jane got over to the cooler, in the very corner on the top shelf, there were nine boxes of the exact cupcakes we wanted and they were 75 percent off! Score!!

This is a great example of how the Lord had prepared to bless me before I even knew what I needed. He had someone put those cupcakes in a special place just for me. He is so awesome to care about even the smallest blessings that delight our souls.

Psalm 37:4 tells us that you can “delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” And Luke 12:32 says, “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” In this case, the kingdom included a whole lot of my favorite cupcakes to take to the barbecue, and a couple extra for Jane and me.

LAUGH AT THE DEVIL

LAUGH AT THE DEVIL
I opened the door to the hall closet and stepped down onto wet carpet. I checked to see if one of the plastic gallons of water leaked. Nope. Then I started to feel around on the carpeted floor and I had to move everything on the floor and pull back the carpet and liner to see what was going on. I followed the water through the closet and into the bedroom. Thank God the water was moving very very slowly. I had to laugh at the devil.

Since before the beginning of the year I’ve been working on publishing volume two of my WINGS series, which I did in June, and just last week I published a smaller booklet, A Devil on Every Door Knob: And the Faith to Know What to Do About It. I have another booklet coming out on demons also. Obviously Satan is upset with me because since the beginning of the year I’ve been attacked by worldly things. Finally, the devil pushed his luck too far and I’m not biting the bait. He’s a fool and I have the wisdom of God.

This time, by revelation, I was told to laugh at the devil and speak to the demon bringing this on. I said, “Do you think you are interrupting my plans for the day by causing this to happen? Nope! This IS the plan for the day! I trust in Jesus. I’m living in the moment and I am going to see the value of a good God and good Lord with me today. HA HA HA!”

In testing the various places that might have been leaking, I found out my second shower was working great. I had trouble with the draining a year ago and hadn’t needed to check it until now. I wouldn’t have known it was totally okay until having to check it in this situation. Ha! Ha! Also I’d been wanting to clean out the closet. Well now I have to and I’m not in a hurry so I’m at ease with it.

And the other great thing is that I think it may be a broken pipe in my sprinkler system and that is okay too, because I’ve been wanting to revamp the irrigation. It was put in in 1994 and has only had one minor repair in all these years. But it needs a little work, so now’s the time.

I’m laughing at the devil because what he thought was a great coup is only going to give glory to God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I was reminded of how Jesus must have been laughing at the devil when He said bye bye to Hell when the devil killed him and thought he had Him. God raised his son Jesus from the dead and from Hell itself, to have everlasting victory and give that victory to us. 1 John 3:8 tells us: “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”

I told Satan, “Nope, devil, you get no glory here! In fact, you didn’t even affect me. You actually helped execute God’s will! HA! HA! HA!”

I am so thankful to the Lord for my attitude change. At one time in my life, this kind of thing would really put me over the edge and I’d drive myself and everyone around me crazy with my frantic nervousness and obsessive compulsion to fix everything right away.

But I’m different now. I believe Romans 8:28, that says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” And I can say that even in the midst of problems, applying Philippians 4:6-7 is working for me. It says, “Be anxious for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Life brings challenges and problems. Our attitude brings resolve and solutions. The Bible really does have all the answers to life.

The water is turned off now and the next step will come this week. Keep us in your prayers as the solution gets sorted out.

Love, Carolyn

REFRESHING, NOT DISTRESSING

REFRESHING, NOT DISTRESSING
My friend Alex told me that yesterday after work he couldn’t stop thinking about the job and he was really stressed out. When he got home he took one look at his pool. Though the pool has been operational for a couple months now, this was the first time he decided he really wanted to get in and take a swim. He told me the water was shockingly cold at first, but then he started just floating on his back and looking up at his trees and his whole body and brain started to relax.

The phrase “chilling out,” meaning “relaxing,” is literally accurate. Cool water is good for slowing things down. When my shoulder gets tense, I put an ice pack on it. It stings at first, but if I just bear it for a couple seconds, I start to breathe slowly and deeply, the tension goes and it feels pretty darn good.

Some of us always move pretty fast, if not always in body, then at least in our brains. I’m like that. It’s hard for me to just sit down and meditate quietly. When I start, the thoughts of things I need to do come popping into my head and I have to grab my pen and make a note. It takes some real determination for me to really slow down and “chill out.”

If you can relate to that, then we both need to learn how to breathe deep and be still. We need to give our brains a rest sometimes, even when we’re awake.

In Psalm 46:10 God tells us: “Be still, and know that I am God.” Isaiah 26:3 says, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

Even as I was writing this article on my computer, my internet connection went out and I started to get frustrated. I took a deep breath and stayed as quiet as I could, while my roommate Jane took a look at it and fixed the connection. I thank God for Jane.

Lately it seems like I’ve been hit with so many things to get rattled about, but not to worry. Jesus is always there to get me right back on track. I believe Jesus had my friend Alex tell me that story about the pool because He, Jesus, had a special message for me. When Alex described the incident it was as if I was there myself. I could feel the chill of the water and then the refreshing and calm. Jesus was trying to get me to pay attention.

So when the computer incident happened, I was able to pull myself back from distress and calm myself with the scriptures. And now that the incident is over, I feel much more refreshed. Cool shower to finish off the day? Maybe I’ll try it.

A TIME TO BEBUILD

A TIME TO REBUILD
We all get our hearts hurt a time or two in this life. We just don’t have the ability as a human, to never hurt or disappoint someone we love. It’s not that people are intentionally evil or mean, but stuff happens. Do you know what Psalm 118:8 says? It is the very middle verse of the Bible and it says: “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.”

I was recently hurt deeply by someone I never expected it from. She got married and never told me. I only found out afterwards by someone else. My heart reeled; I felt broken and my soul was devastated.

It tore me up for weeks and finally I couldn’t take the pain anymore. I had to settle it; I had to know why I wasn’t told. I prayed and between texting and phone calls, by the end of the evening, I got full understanding.
There were major complications in the wedding plans. I won’t go into details but lots of things changed and things got missed.

When I understood what happened, I could finally just forgive and forget. I just let it go and got my soul free of the pain. It was such a relief.

Though my heart had been crushed, I learned two very important lessons:  1. Handle heart issues as soon after the incident as possible, and 2. Don’t put your confidence in people. Even the best of them can hurt you. It doesn’t mean we stop loving people, but it does mean we have to go back to what God says about trusting Him and the Lord Jesus above all else.

Psalm 147:3 says, “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”

Jesus said this about His commissioning from God: “He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives” (Luke 4:18). Sometimes I feel like those two phrases can relate to the same thing. When our hearts are broken, the painful emotions take us captive until we can finally get free. Time heals, but it doesn’t always make us totally free from the hurt. Only Jesus can do that.

John 8:32 says, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  I could guess a hundred possible scenarios as to why I wasn’t told about the wedding, but in the end I wouldn’t have guessed the real truth. I got the real truth because I prayed to get it and the Lord answered my prayer quickly.

When our hearts are broken and our souls devastated, trust in Jesus will absolutely help us to rebuild, repair and heal. We go through the pain and though it’s so hurtful at the time, later we look back and say, “Now I understand.” And then we can go on. The resilience of the human heart and soul is astounding.

We survive; we get understanding; we get through sorrows; we get through struggles; we get through pain; and we can rebuild.

God promises in Psalm 23:3, “He restoreth [is restoring] my soul.”

My pain lasted a month and my recovery took place miraculously in only one day. I asked for His help and did as He guided me to do. I made it through and now I can honestly say my pain is gone and I have complete peace.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you” (John 14:27). This kind of miracle peace and release only comes with Jesus. It feels very different from anything else!

MORNING GLORIES AND THE MORNING STAR

MORNING GLORIES AND THE MORNING STAR
Every day when I come home from work I need to go outside and water my morning glories. In these over-100-degree temperatures, by the end of the day they are sagging, the leaves wilting and generally looking pretty sad. But about a half hour after giving them water, they perk up. I need Jesus at least as often as my morning glories need water.

Psalm 42:1 says, “As the hart [deer] panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.” I’ve certainly felt that way lately.

So many distressing things in the news these days: lots of hate, and people seem to be offended by just about everything and everybody. I wake up in the night, crying out in my mind, “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.” I long for His intervention, His answers, His presence. Just calling out His name, I have comfort and know He’s there and I go back to sleep easily.

With the many disturbing, confusing and crazy things going on in our world and even in our private everyday circumstances, it’s perfectly okay to cry out for our Lord Jesus. Quantum physics has proved that an atom, not part of the atom, but the whole atom can actually be in two places at once. If a physical atom can do that, what about God Almighty, or our Lord Jesus Christ?

The Psalmist asked, “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there” (Ps. 139:7-8).
If you need Jesus and I need Jesus and 150,000 people need Jesus all at the same time, and He’s also sitting down at the right hand of the throne of God (Heb. 12:2) at the same time, how do you think this happens?

One reason God invented quantum physics is so that He and Jesus can be anywhere and everywhere they need to be. What an awesome thing that is!

Jesus has already experienced every stressful, confusing, awful situation we encounter and He can and will help us.

I didn’t even realize until writing this article that my crying out for Him, just even saying His name a few times in my mind, really works. I don’t even have to say a big long prayer or anything like that. Whether I’m just bored or worn out or stressed or disturbed, when I call His name, He’s there and I’m okay.

My morning glories wait for me to come home from work and give them their much-desired water. A deer pants for the brooks and I call out for my Jesus. Revelation 22:16 says Jesus is “the bright and morning star.” He has really been that for me in these recent traumatic times, and He will always be there for us. Call on Him whenever you want. He can be in a lot of places at once!

Love, Carolyn

JEZEBEL ISN'T JUST ABOUT SEXY SEDUCTION

JEZEBEL ISN’T JUST ABOUT SEXY SEDUCTION
I was privy to a situation that taught me firsthand about a Jezebel demon. Most people think this is a spirit that entices men sexually and gets them into trouble. Yes, that’s part of it, but it’s much more insidious than that. Even though it has a female title, it’s not gender specific and though it goes after those in positions of authority, it also tries to bribe ordinary Christian believers in various sneaky ways. I’m going to tell you a true story to illustrate how it works and what the Bible says we can do about it.

When I walked into work, my friend Lupe was staring at a difficult-looking sample to match. Where did it come from? Well, not from her boss. It came from a middle management fellow and it was for a personal job, not for the company we worked for.

She avoided it for a week and she told me she wasn’t feeling very comfortable with it. She didn’t even like the fellow who asked her to do it. She was really double-minded about even starting it and then told me, “I’ll just find a close match as fast as I can and that’ll be it.” We got busy and a couple weeks went by. Then out of nowhere the female purchasing agent, Delia, came to Lupe and asked how the “special” sample was going. The fellow with the original request had called the purchasing agent to facilitate the completion of the sample.

Lupe was furious. She didn’t like the idea of doing the sample in the first place since it wasn’t a legitimate job. It was something she was just supposed to sneak in on the side. And now she was being seduced and pressured by Delia to get it done. She fumed and complained all day long. But she began the sample and it took several hours. It was a tricky one and everything that could go wrong, did. Then we heard that the boss was coming in. Lupe grabbed all evidence of the sample and hid it.

She had never ever done anything like that before. She’d always been very honest in her dealings at work. But Delia had pestered her so much, Lupe gave in and did something that was dishonest. Now she was caught in the trap. They had a secret. If Lupe didn’t say anything to our boss, then Delia would always have this trump card over Lupe’s head, and could use it whenever she needed to make sure Lupe knew who was really in control. Now Delia had power over Lupe, which is exactly what a Jezebel spirit wants—CONTROL and POWER.

A Jezebel spirit operating in a person will always try to get them to join into a secret illegal bonding. With men, this Jezebel spirit will use the power of sexual passions to lure and then control the man. To a woman having this spirit in her, a man doesn’t even have to have physical contact, if a seductive glance of her eyes will do the job of capturing and controlling him enough to get what she wants.

The first mention of Jezebel in the Bible is seen with the manipulative wife of King Ahab. The Jezebel demon has existed way before the woman named Jezebel came along. But she is a noteworthy prototype, and thus the name, “Jezebel spirit.” She caused over ten million Hebrews to bow to Baal and to kill God’s prophets. This one spirit was responsible for corrupting an entire nation. It is intensely ambitious, but it doesn’t want to be the King, it wants to be the sneaky shadow, controlling the King, as it keeps its packet of secret alliances ready for use whenever it wants something. Jezebel is a master at blackmail.

Proverbs 5:3 tells us: “The lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil.” And Proverbs 7:5: “Keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.” In both of these verses, the word “stranger” is a Hebrew word meaning “a stranger to the truth, an alien, and enemy, one who turns aside.”

When I saw these verses I was reminded of Delia. She has an unusually sweet, quiet, soft way of speaking—very compelling. One time she came up to me and whispered softly, “I think I put that big gouge in the floor. Do you think you could fix it without the boss seeing it?” I thought that was a little strange. I thought, “If the boss wants me to fix it, just tell him and he can authorize it. Otherwise I’ll just keep doing what I’m hired to do.” And I never did a thing about it and never mentioned it again. At the time I had no idea what she was up to, but just glad the Holy Spirit in me didn’t let me get trapped by tha sweet voice!

Deuteronomy 13:6 tells us about the Jezebel spirit: “If thy brother, or thy son or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known.” That pretty much says it right there. The gods who are other than the true God are the ones who want us to do dishonest things: Things like stealing time, lying about things, hiding things—all those things that we intuitively know are bad. But with the clever enticement of a close relative or a friend, this Jezebel spirit knows all the right words to get us off track enough to do something that could easily come back to bite us later if we don’t chop it’s head off immediately.

Proverbs 23:27 tells us: “A strange woman is a narrow pit.” In other words, a tough one to get out of. First Corinthians puts it another way: “What? Know ye not that he which is joined to a harlot is one body? For two, saith he, shall be one flesh.” Second Corinthians says, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?” Just one hook-up with evil can take us down a long dark rabbit hole!

Proverbs 7:21-27: “With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him. He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life. Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.”

Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths. For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her. Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.”

So, what does the Bible say we are to do about a Jezebel when it comes at us?

Proverbs 2:10-11 and 16 give us part of the answer: “When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee, to deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words.” “Disgression” is translated from a Hebrew word that means “a plan, craftiness.” Jesus tells us: “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents and harmless as doves” (Matt. 10:16).

Where it says “understanding shall keep thee,” the word “keep” means to “preserve and guard from danger.” Now that you understand something about a Jezebel demon, you can make a plan to keep yourself from danger.

Proverbs 5:8 tells us: “Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house.” Second Corinthians 6:17 corroborates what Proverbs says: “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.”

There’s another point that’s really important here. Deuteronomy 13:8 tells us: “Neither shall thine eye pity him.” This demon elicits pity from its prey. Because the person exhibiting the Jezebel spirit talks so nicely and seems like such a gentle and wonderful person, we are tempted to feel sorry for them and be nicer toward them, but God says don’t do it.

The way God has made for these people to get delivered from these demons is to be exposed and made naked. When exposed, they get so ashamed that they can actually, at that time, be delivered. See Hosea 2:5 and 19, Ezekiel 16 and 32.

There are many more examples of unholy alliances, and Jezebel demons luring good people down bad paths. The record of Samson and Delilah comes to mind.

I hope that this article has helped you. For me, once I saw Jezebel operating in real life, and took the time to study it in the Bible, I feel I have a much greater awareness of what’s going on and now I know exactly what to do about it.

Love, Carolyn

VACUUM THE LAWN? SOME TASKS ARE JUST BETTER DONE BY OTHERS

VACUUM THE LAWN? SOME TASKS ARE JUST BETTER DONE BY OTHERS
The things I absolutely can’t handle well, but are still important enough to me to get done, are the tasks I have to believe and pray to God for the money to hire someone else to do them. Housecleaning and mowing the lawn are those two things for me.

The Lawn: I love my grass and so do the school kids, who play on the lawn after school. Also the people who walk a mile from one busy street to another along my road, use my low brick fence, big shade tree, and lawn as respite between the two cross roads. A couple times, when I first moved in, I tried to mow the lawn myself. It’s on a bit of a slope and when I tried to use the mower it really hurt my shoulders. So I hired Sal. He’s not that good, but he does a fair job and I’m just thankful he does it and I don’t have to.

Some tasks in life are just better done by others. Even in the body of Christ there are different jobs to be done by different people. I love writing for the Lord. My best friend Jane loves doing the promotion, so it works really well.

Paul spoke by revelation about the body of Christ: “And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you” (1 Cor. 12:21) I just love that. Jesus is telling me I actually need other people and I’ve accepted that command. I use to think I should do everything myself.

I used to feel guilty about having someone clean my house, like it’s a humble task and I should be able to do it myself and not make someone else do it for me. I don’t feel guilty anymore. The woman who helps me actually likes doing it, which is amazing to me, and I am so grateful.

Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour” (vv. 22-23). That is definitely true about my housecleaning lady and my lawn guy. Oh yeah, I love my garbage guys too; they always bring my empty garbage cans back up by the house and they take all my pruning branches whether or not they are “properly” bundled!

Today I’m taking the time to thank the Lord for the people who help me do the things I don’t do well for myself. And I will be sure to show those people my personal appreciation too. “Faith without works is dead” (James 2:26).

Love, Carolyn

WHICH "FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT" IS A DIAMOND?

WHICH “FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT” IS A DIAMOND?
An amazing thing happened this week that proved to me that through faith and quoting a particular scripture, one of the Fruit of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5:22 had fully developed and we didn’t even know it.

This past Wednesday I woke up in a sweat. I checked the thermostat and it was over 80 degrees at 4 a.m.! The temperatures have been 109 degrees to 113 degrees during the day so we had to get this fixed as soon as possible. I had to be at work and my roommate Jane had an appointment at 1:00 p.m. and we had to think about the cat and the dog and call the insurance people who would call the air conditioning company and we also needed to figure out a place to stay until it could be fixed—lots of arranging to do and chock full of pressure.

We actually handled it well, one thing at a time. Jane took me to work, called the insurance, went back to check on the animals, called me, and was able to make her 1 o’clock appointment. The air conditioning guys couldn’t make it out until Friday, so the next two days were a whirlwind of driving me to work, driving back to check on the animals, getting our stuff to the motel and checked in, back again to check on the animals, getting a ride after work to the motel. And in the middle of this, we had a quick rainstorm and a flash flood.

But with all the tension and stress of the situation we didn’t even argue one time. When the anxiety mounted up, we shut up, and didn’t let it out of our mouths. We just kept our trust in the Lord that all would be well, the air conditioning would be an easy fix, the animals would be fine and everything would be okay. And it was.

Galatians 5:22 tells us “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith.” We received some of that “longsuffering” fruit. The Greek word for “longsuffering” means “patient enduring.”

Vine’s Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words says: “Patience only grows in trial.” In other words, patience is only developed under pressure, so we don’t even know we have it until we’re put to the test.

Lots of times we don’t really see what the Spirit is doing to change our lives and we even may wonder if anything is really happening. I know that since the beginning of the year, Jane and I have had several opportunities to be stressed. We were both very aware of the reason: I started working on publishing my second WINGS book. The adversary hit me with just about everything he could to get me to quit. But with Jane’s help and the help of friends like you, I didn’t give up.

Every day on the way to work I would say Philippians 4:6 and 7 along with the other scriptures we quote. It says: “Be careful [anxious] for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Then when this incident with the air conditioning happened and we were put under even more pressure, we just kept the faith and trusted in the Lord all the way through. We even got a mini miracle: The air conditioning guys were scheduled to come late Friday afternoon, but they had a cancellation so they were able to come at 9 a.m.

When the whole incident was over, we discovered that in this experience, the fruit had become fully ripe. I can honestly say, it’s as if the whole thing never happened.

We talked this morning about what could have happened if we had let the stress get to us: we could have argued about things, which would have brought about emotional strife, which would have remained and would have needed to be handled after the incident of the air conditioning was long over.

So many other negative things could have happened and lingered beyond the actual incident, but because that fruit of patience (longsuffering) was already developed, when the incident was over, the stress just fell off like a scab and had no more effect on us at all – like it never even happened.

It's not great, humanly, that patience (longsuffering) only gets developed under pressure. It’s just NOT fun, but once you’ve been through it, it’s amazing and thrilling and a great joy to know you really have it.

Like Jane reminded me this morning, a diamond is formed only under pressure. And we’ve found that true forbearance (patience) is a very precious diamond to own.

Love, Carolyn

"In WINGS 2: Journey with Jesus you will experience narrow escapes from Satanic worshippers in the worst of job situations, angelic encounters in the most surprising circumstances and miraculous rescues in the San Francisco Bay, the woods of Northern California and on the streets of South Africa. You will be inspired by heart-warming dog stories, thrilled by your commissioning as a spiritual soldier who defeats the wickedest of demons and enormously satisfied by the rest that comes from being loved. You’ll be electrified by the new truths you understand and the wisdom you never knew you had. You’ll be able to delight in laughter, and relax in peace and protection.

Reading this book, answering the questions at the end of each chapter and doing the easy challenges can help you to experience Bible teachings as real and personal, not just more religious dogma to file away somewhere on a dusty shelf or send to the ethereal cloud.

You can use WINGS 2: A Journey with Jesus as a weekly devotional or you can read the chapters at random and at your own pace. If you travel through this book sequentially and you come across a chapter you want to save for later, I’ve included six alternate chapters in the back that can be substituted.

I pray these words speak through me to help you benefit personally from the revelations in this book, equipping you to bless, heal and strengthen the larger body of Christ in the tumultuous times in which we live."
